Architect Theatre is creating The Pipeline Project, a play about the language of progress and preservation, as it relates to Northern BC and pipelines.

Between November 27 and December 17, Architect Theatre will travel throughout Northern BC and interview a cross section of people: those strongly against and for the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline, residents of First Nations communities, politicians, industry representatives, and activists, as the proposed path for the pipeline passes through many sensitive natural areas where endangered languages are spoken. Architect Theatre will create a play using recorded interviews and live theatre to address issues of communication, environment and economics. We are interested in the language people use about pipelines, the languages which precede pipelines, and the language of progress. Joining us for this project are Siminovitch Protege award-winning director Anita Rochon and acoustic artist and researcher Jennifer Shine.

Architect Theatre is an independent company that produces entertaining and thought-provoking research-based plays that engages with the human stories behind contemporary issues. Our first play, Highway 63: The Fort Mac Show, was about the community at the heart of the Oil Sands project, and has toured Canada over the last several years. Our second production, This Must Be The Place: The CN Tower Show played at Theatre Passe Muraille in Toronto, October 4 - 27, 2012. Created through interviews and research, this is an entertaining and surprising exploration of life in Canada's largest city.
